The Amsterdam-based duo LASALTAS crafts intuitive sonic meditations on space and intimacy, where melodic interplay and digital sound processing shape a post-classical, cinematic soundworld. This duo emerged at the Master of Live electronics (MLE) at the Conservatorium of Amsterdam. Formed by two classically trained musicians, their need to expand musical horizons led them to delve into the world of software and electronic music, exploring soundscapes that blend their acoustic instruments ( viola and alto flute) with sound design, digital noises and field recordings. Together, they are creating the Reveries series, a project that seeks to create immersive auditory experiences.
CULTURE MOVES EUROPE GRANT
After receiving a mobility grant from the European Union and the Goethe-Institut, we chose Romantso as the site for an artistic residency— an intensive week spent in their facilities exploring their special sound system.
The project began with the creation of The Reveries — a 45-minute performance — were we explored the gentle, introspective state of reverie: a drifting between daydream and presence, evoking sensations of calm, suspended time, and emotional depth. Using viola, alto flute, live electronics, and field recordings, we created immersive, evolving soundscapes that emerge from the interaction between acoustic purity and digital transformation, using space as an expressive medium.
Layers of subtle noise, distortion, and processed, spatialized textures accumulate and dissolve, accompanied by generative visuals that mirror the music’s emotional and temporal flow. The Reveries becomes an intimate, multi-sensory journey through shifting inner landscapes — opening a collective space for contemplation, presence, and quiet transformation.
The artistic residency at Bios.Romatso provided us the opportunity to share our creative process with different audiences and receive feedback as well as create connections with the local electronic music scene.
